Algeria refuses its national and sends him back to France
In a controversial move, Algeria on Thursday refused to admit Algerian influencer “Doualemn” onto its territory following his expulsion from France. Reports indicate that his entry into Algeria was denied under a 2008 law aimed at blocking individuals deemed potential threats.
Case Details
“Doualemn,” who holds only Algerian nationality, was legally residing in France until his residency permit was revoked after allegations of posting videos on TikTok inciting violence. He was arrested last Saturday in Montpellier, with French authorities citing these videos to expedite his deportation.
After arriving Thursday evening at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport in France, he was transferred to the Mesnil-Amelot administrative detention center, where he remains under an active deportation order.
Statements from the Lawyer and Prosecutor
“Doualemn’s” lawyer stated that the incriminated videos did not contain explicit calls for murder, according to an official translation conducted by the Montpellier Court of Appeal. The lawyer clarified that the content merely encouraged severe physical assault on a person residing in Algeria. The accused admitted to the actions but explained that he was under the influence of a drug substitution treatment at the time.
Diplomatic Repercussions
Algeria’s refusal to accept its national has further strained Franco-Algerian relations, already fraught with controversies surrounding Algerian influencers and their contentious activities on social media.
Arrest of Other Influencers
Additionally, French authorities recently arrested two other Algerian influencers in Brest and the suburbs of Grenoble, signaling intensified efforts to combat violent content on digital platforms.
This case highlights the need for stronger international cooperation to address issues related to digital content and its societal impact. It also raises questions about balancing freedom of expression with social responsibility for influencers on digital platforms.
