Morgan Stanley International Chairman Missing After Yacht Sinks in Sicily
Italian authorities have confirmed the disappearance of Jonathan Plummer, Chairman of Morgan Stanley International, along with British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, after the luxury yacht they were aboard sank off the coast of Sicily early yesterday, Monday.
Salvo Cocina, head of the Civil Protection Agency in Sicily, said the six missing passengers are Plummer and his wife Judy, Clifford Chance partner Chris Morvillo and his wife Nada, as well as Lynch and his daughter Hannah.
Plummer, 70, has worked in finance for five decades. He has been the head of Morgan Stanley’s European business unit since 2018 and was chosen to lead the board of British insurance company Hiscox last year. Between 1995 and 2005, Plummer held senior positions at Prudential, first as the company’s CFO and then as its CEO. He left after a disagreement with shareholders over the decision to raise funds through a rights issue to help finance expansion in the UK rather than Asia.
Italian coast guard teams led search and rescue operations throughout the day, successfully rescuing 15 people, according to Camper & Nicholsons, the company managing the 56-meter (184-foot) yacht.
