Gérard Larcher, President of the French Senate, on an Official Visit to the Moroccan Sahara to Strengthen the French-Moroccan Partnership

As part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between France and Morocco, the President of the French Senate, Gérard Larcher, will pay an official visit to the Kingdom from February 23 to 26, 2025. This strategic visit will include stops in Rabat and Laayoune, reflecting the shared commitment of both nations to deepening their cooperation.

A High-Level Diplomatic Agenda in Rabat

Upon his arrival at Rabat-Salé Airport on February 23, Gérard Larcher will be welcomed by Mohammed Ould Errachid, President of the House of Councillors. He will then meet with the French community in Morocco before attending an official dinner in his honor.

On February 24, he will pay tribute to the memory of Kings Mohammed V and Hassan II during a visit to the Mohammed V Mausoleum. The day will be marked by a series of meetings with key Moroccan political figures, including Rachid Talbi El Alami, President of the House of Representatives, Aziz Akhannouch, Head of Government, and Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Laayoune: A Symbolic and Strategic Visit

On the afternoon of February 24, Gérard Larcher will travel to Laayoune, where he will be received by local authorities. This visit to the southern provinces carries significant symbolic weight, demonstrating the growing interest of international partners in the socio-economic development of this strategic region.

On February 25, he will hold discussions with Abdeslam Bekrate, Wali of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, as well as Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid, President of the Laayoune Municipal Council, and Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid, President of the Regional Council. These talks will focus on economic, social, and institutional cooperation opportunities between the two countries.

The afternoon will be dedicated to visiting major socio-economic projects, showcasing Laayoune’s transformation and Morocco’s role as a pillar of stability and development in North Africa.

A Growing French-Moroccan Partnership

With this visit, Gérard Larcher reaffirms France’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Morocco by supporting regional development initiatives and deepening political and economic exchanges.

On the morning of February 26, the President of the Senate and his delegation will leave Rabat for Paris, concluding a visit rich in discussions and commitments to further strengthen the cooperation between the two nations.
