King Mohammed VI Receives Sahel Foreign Ministers: Renewed Support for the Atlantic Initiative and Strengthened Regional Cooperation

King Mohammed VI received, at the Royal Palace in Rabat, the foreign ministers of the member countries of the Sahel States Alliance: Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation of Burkina Faso; Abdoulaye Diop, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Mali; and Bakary Yaou Sangaré, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Niger’s transitional government.

This meeting is part of efforts to strengthen Morocco’s longstanding ties with the three Sahel countries, marked by deep friendship, mutual respect, active solidarity, and constructive cooperation.

During the audience, the three ministers conveyed messages of appreciation and gratitude from their respective heads of state, expressing thanks for the King’s ongoing attention to the Sahel region and for the vital role played by royal initiatives in promoting economic and social development in their nations.

Among these initiatives, the royal proposal to grant Sahel countries access to the Atlantic Ocean received particular praise. The ministers reaffirmed their countries’ full commitment to this strategic project and their determination to accelerate its implementation, given its direct benefits for the region’s future.

The ministers also briefed the King on the institutional and operational progress of the Sahel States Alliance, a new framework for regional coordination and integration among member states, at a time when the region is facing complex security and development challenges.

This meeting reflects the shared determination of Morocco and the Sahel states to intensify cooperation and promote regional integration with the goal of building a stable and prosperous Afro-Atlantic area.
