Número récord de trabajadores humanitarios muertos en zonas de conflicto

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs stated that aid workers on the front lines of conflicts worldwide are being killed in unprecedented numbers. It reported that with 280 aid workers killed in 33 countries last year, 2023 has been the deadliest year ever for the global humanitarian community.

In a statement issued on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, the UN office said that this outrageously high figure represents a 137% increase compared to 2022, when 118 aid workers were killed.

It warned that 2024 could be on track for an even higher toll, as by August 7, 172 aid workers had already been killed, according to the provisional count from the Aid Worker Security Database.

It added that more than half of the deaths in 2023 were recorded in the first three months of hostilities in Gaza between October and December, most of them resulting from airstrikes.

Since October, more than 280 aid workers have been killed, most of them being employees of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza alone.
